Varchausky conducts the Cagliari Conservatory's typical tango orchestra in concert on May 11

The tango orchestra of the Conservatory of Cagliari celebrates its third anniversary, but the journey of tango in the classrooms of 'Palestrina' began experimentally back in 2013. With the establishment in 2022 of the first bandoneon chair recognized by the Ministry of University and Research in an Italian conservatory, the project coordinated by the concert artist and teacher Fabio Furia has developed into an international endeavor.

On Sunday, May 11th, at 6:30 pm in the Auditorium of Piazza Porrino, the orchestra formed by students engaged in a workshop led by Ignacio Varchausky will perform for the usual final concert. Varchausky himself, a renowned Argentine bassist and director considered one of the world's leading experts on the musical repertoire beloved by Jorge Luis Borges and made famous by Astor Piazzolla, will take the podium.

The orchestral ensemble will consist of 8 violins, 3 violas, 4 cellos, 2 double basses, an accordion, and an impressive 10 bandoneons. Among the musicians are also five Erasmus students (three violists and two cellists) from Poland and Lithuania.

The program will feature works by Troilo, Francini-Pontier, Francini, D’Arienzo (including the famous Cumparsita), Piazzolla, Pugliese, and Balcarce. Admission is free.
