'Me & Amy': at TsE the tribute to Amy Winehouse, the queen of white soul
A captivating and touching artist portrait with 'Me & Amy / What I Would Have Liked to Say to Amy Winehouse,' an intriguing show-concert based on a text by Paolo Putzu, with adaptation and direction by Stefano Ledda, who is also a protagonist on stage along with singer MaNuL (aka Manuela Loi) and musicians Virgilio Atzori (bass) and Pier Paolo Cardia (piano), with Melania Lai and Chiara Faedda (backing vocals) and - special guest - percussionist and singer from Cuba Ernesto Lopez Maturell, will be on stage on Saturday, March 15 at 8:30 pm and Sunday, March 16 at 7:30 pm at the TsE in Is Mirrionis in Cagliari - a production by Teatro del Segno and MaNuLSoul. This piece is inspired by the story of the Queen of White Soul, her unmistakable voice, and immense talent, as well as her fragility, expressed through beautiful songs that are a perfect blend of ironic and thought-provoking lyrics with a unique style rich in references to classic Soul and Jazz from the Sixties, combined with a decidedly contemporary Rhythm and Blues sound. This event marks the beginning of the second part of the 2024-2025 Theater Season of Teatro Senza Quartiere, organized by Teatro del Segno as part of the multi-year project 'Teatro Senza Quartiere / for a neighborhood without a theater' (2017-2026), with the patronage and support of the Regione Sardegna and the contribution of the Fondazione di Sardegna.
'Me & Amy' is a tribute to the British singer-songwriter, a bright star who captivated audiences and critics, quickly rising to the top of the charts. The show delves into the life of Amy Winehouse, a soulful powerhouse whose music mesmerized listeners with its energy, passion, bitterness, and honesty. This journey through words and music features a selection of songs mainly from her album 'Back to Black,' released in 2006, which garnered global success and five Grammy Awards. The focus is on the turbulent life of Amy Winehouse, a rebellious and intense artist who struggled with her inner demons but managed to enchant audiences with her powerful yet soulful voice.
The show portrays the extraordinary life and career of the singer through the eyes of an imaginary but relatable character, Paul, a drummer who crossed paths with the rising star and witnessed the highs and lows of her career. 'Me & Amy' is a memory lane experience, where emotions and memories take shape through the extraordinary voice of MaNuL, a versatile and intense interpreter of Soul, Jazz, and R'n'B, accompanied by her Soul Band, creating a nostalgic atmosphere reminiscent of the golden era of Motown. This tribute is a journey into the past, celebrating the timeless legacy of a truly unique artist whose voice continues to inspire and move audiences to this day.
