Beyond the border
The Municipal Art Gallery of Cagliari inaugurates a new important exhibition season with "Beyond the Border", a show dedicated to artists Angelino Fiori, Marco Ippolito, and Roberto Puzzu.
"Beyond the Border" is an invitation to surpass every limit, whether geographical, cultural, or linguistic, to observe how art can interpret the transformations of our time. Despite starting from deeply rooted personal experiences in Sardinian culture, Angelino Fiori, Marco Ippolito, and Roberto Puzzu develop languages capable of engaging with international contemporaneity, addressing themes such as memory, identity, material, inner landscape, and human resilience in the face of societal changes. The three artists also share a connection with the Institute of Art in Sassari, now the Art Lyceum, where in the sixties the director Mauro Manca initiated a profound season of renewal by breaking with traditional academicism and paving the way for an art conception based on research, experimentation, and project planning. From that experience, a creative path emerges that still today questions the relationship between tradition and innovation.
In addition to the works on display, three older works by the three artists, belonging to the Municipal Art Gallery's collection, can also be observed. Some pieces from the nineties and others more recent, acquired by the Civic Museums, are indeed once again exhibited alongside the artists' more recent productions. A curatorial choice that allows for capturing the evolution of their research and, at the same time, enhances the civic heritage through new interpretations.
The exhibition path thus proposes a reflection on the value of material, memory, and time. Painting, engraving, graphics, installations, and three-dimensional experiments become tools through which the artists construct a direct dialogue with the visitor, inviting them to contemplate the artwork, to slow down their gaze, and symbolically cross the "border" evoked by the exhibition's title.
