Antonio Ligabue. The Great Exhibition
Since November 28th, the City Hall of Cagliari is hosting for the first time in Sardinia a major exhibition dedicated to Antonio Ligabue (1899–1965), the rebellious and visionary painter who shook the artistic landscape of the 20th century with the primal force of his images.
'Antonio Ligabue. The grand exhibition' showcases 60 masterpieces – including oils and drawings – that trace the entire creative arc of an artist outside any conventional scheme, capable of transforming his difficult life into an extraordinary painting adventure.
In Cagliari, visitors can embark on a captivating journey through the central themes of Antonio Ligabue's universe: scenes of peasant life, carriages, troikas, postilions that evoke the memory of popular prints and rural tradition, up to the famous self-portraits, in which the artist confronts his own face as an internal battlefield.
Produced and organized by the Autonomous Region of Sardinia, the Municipality of Cagliari, City Hall – Cagliari Civic Museums, and the Sardinia Foundation in collaboration with Arthemisia, the exhibition is curated by Francesco Negri and Francesca Villanti.
